What is DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)?

DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a service that offers a faster Internet connection than a standard dial-up connection. DSL technology uses existing 2-wire copper telephone wiring to deliver high-speed data services to homes and businesses.

DSL uses the existing phone line and in most cases does not require an additional phone line. This gives "always-on" Internet access and does not tie up the phone line. No more busy signals, no more dropped connections, no more waiting for someone in the household to get off the phone. DSL offers users a choice of speeds ranging from 144 Kbps to 1.5Mbps. This is 2.5x to 25x times faster than a standard 56Kbps dial-up modem. 

This digital service can be used to deliver bandwidth-intensive applications like streaming audio/video, online games, application programs, telephone calling, video conferencing and other high-bandwidth services. 

Today DSL is for the first time putting high-speed Internet access within the reach of the home, small and medium-size businesses. DSL takes existing voice cables that connect customer premises to the phone company's central office (CO) and turns them into a high-speed digital link.


How do I get ADSL service?

First, to begin processing your order we must check for availability. Just give us a call at 636-931-8111 and we'll check to see if you qualify. We'll ask you for the address and phone number (must be a SWB billed phone number) at the location where you want the DSL installed.

Next, we'll set-up a DSL connection to your current phone line. Since DSL and voice can share a single line, you don't need new wiring inside your home, so there's no waiting around for technicians to show up. We'll have the phone company come around to make a few adjustments to your existing phone line, but you don't have to pay extra or be at home for this.

When your connection is ready, we'll send you your DSL equipment (where applicable), which you can set-up yourself in minutes. Just plug it in to your computer and phone jack, give JCN's technical support a quick call for the set-up instructions, and fire up the Web.

ADSL Internet access is available in selected St. Louis areas at this time.

When you sign up with JCN DSL Service your DSL line and internet bill are both included.  No longer is it required to have special phone line installed to have high speed access and have 2 bills to pay.  With JCN it is all on one bill.
